What this is

A search engine over discussion forums, and nothing else.

The answers people need are usually already written down. Somebody had the same warping first layer, the same P0420 after a cat swap, the same dishwasher that hums but won't drain — and somebody else told them what it was. Those threads are indexed by the general engines. They are just three clicks deep, underneath sites that scraped the original thread, wrapped it in ads, and outranked the forum that hosted it.

Two things we do differently

We know when a thread got solved. A “Solution” flag, an accepted answer, or someone three posts down saying that was it, thanks — that is the whole point of a support thread, and it is the first thing general ranking throws away. A forty-reply argument that never resolved should not outrank a three-reply thread that ended in a fix.

We demote the copies. When the same thread appears on several sites we keep the oldest one, decided by date rather than by which domain has more authority. Otherwise the aggregator beats the forum it took the thread from.

What we don't do

• We never republish a thread. You get a few lines and a link out. The discussion belongs to the people who wrote it and to the forum that hosts it.
• We don't run ads, and nothing is paid to rank higher.
• We don't track you. No accounts, no cookies, no profile.

Where the answers come from

Two places. Public archives that are licensed for reuse — the Stack Exchange network publishes its content under CC BY-SA 4.0, and every result from one names its author and links back. And a crawler that visits forums directly, politely, and identifies itself on every request — see our crawler.

If you run a forum and would rather we didn't, tell us and we will stop.

How it ranks

The ranking is not a secret, and this page describes it: a thread ranks on whether it resolved, how directly the answer sits in it, and how many people actually contributed rather than bumped. The source is not currently published, so there is no link here — rather than one that doesn't open.
