  2. Step Zero: is always to check/adjust the bed level - if the height over the bed varies while putting down the first layer, it's hard to ever get first layer settings that work.

  3. Touch sensors (or inductive or capacitive sensors) are generally used to probe the bed to determine the bed shape. For metallic beds that are not perfectly straight this works excellent.

  5. I believe the Slic3r Manual summarizes this quite nicely: In other words, larger layer heights for the first layer typically gives better adhesion, and makes inaccurate bed leveling (and auto leveling) still work.

  7. I believe printing directly on aluminium is unwise, simply because it will expand when heated, typically giving the bed a concave or convex shape. Glass, on the other hand, does not (at least not significantly).

  8. My firmware actually was working just fine, in terms of probing with G29 before a print and then the Z-axis would adjust during the print.

  11. There are at least 2 options to address the problem that you have: Adjust end-stops so that in 0,0 position Z-sensor would still hang above the printing table.

  13. I found the problem. This model of printer Monoprice Select v2 has bed warping issues so when the bed heated up it would warp severely. I bought a glass bed and all my problems were solved.

  16. TLDR; Make sure the bed isn't too high, the z-axis should reach the end-of-rail indicator without forcing against the bed So it appears I simply misunderstood (or mis-assumed) the way my printer works.

  18. So the new silicone buffers raised the bed by 5 mm? When this happens, you should raise the endstop also with 5 mm. Else the printer will go down to the Z endstop that is effectively 5 mm below the level of the bed.
